BOTANICAL GARDEN ALPINIA, GIGNESE-STRESA

THE ALPINIA BOTANICAL GARDEN

Located in Alpino, a small hamlet situated between the towns of Stresa and Gignese, at 800 meters above sea level the Alpinia Garden offers outstanding views of the Borromeo Gulf and the Swiss Alps, in an area that became a popular tourist destination for European aristocrats and artists in the middle of the nineteenth century and still attracts visitors from all over the world.
The beautiful Botanical Garden, which covers an area of about 40,000 square meters, was established in 1934 and is a place of great natural interest for its extensive and varied collection of over 800 alpine and subalpine botanical species, which includes examples from the Caucasus, China and Japan. A recent extension of the boundaries of the garden has allowed for the creation of a wetland reserved for beautiful aquatic flora.
