MARBLE AND GRANITE

 Our area, in addition to the famous Lakes of Maggiore and Orta, also boasts lovely little lake Mergozzo. Against the backdrop of its pristine waters, where motor boats are prohibited, lies the picturesque village of Mergozzo. Nearby is Candoglia, known for its quarries of marble and granite. The largest quarry is owned by the Diocese of Milan and its fine pink marble has been used exclusively over the centuries for the construction of the Duomo. Even today, the quarry works at full capacity for the repair and maintenance of the Cathedral: symbol of Milan, the capital of northern Italy.
